more about missions

"He must be greater, I must become less." - John 3:30

In a nutshell, this is our mission prayer at Martha Bowman United Methodist Church. As we look out into a broken world, it is more than just helping, it is more than just feeding, and it is more than just kindness: How can we become less of ourselves, so that Jesus can become greater in our world?

Neighborhood Christmas Project: Lydia Sutherland

What began as a small Bible study taking a few gifts and snack lunches to a neighborhood in need over eight years ago has turned into a community-wide program providing gifts, lunches, groceries, and much more to over one hundred kids and families.

Mentors project: June O'Neal

The Mentors Project provides role models for encouragement and motivation to eligible Bibb County Public Middle and High School students who need additional support outside their family and to assist them in reaching their full academic, social, and personal potential.

Spectrum Ministries

Martha Bowman has been partnering with Spectrum Ministries out of Tijuana, Mexico for over 15 years. That means roughly 125 youth and adults from Martha Bowman have been impacted by this incredible ministry and have invested in the lives and stories of hundreds of kids and families living in Tijuana. In 2019, we felt God leading us to go "deep" spiritually with this partnership. We had a staff mission team serve in Tijuana in February, we have 12 youth and adults serving in June and a family/adult mission experience scheduled for October. If you would like to learn more about this incredible ministry, check out their website here. For more information about the family/adult mission trip in October, please contact Elizabeth Hammock.
